Now an indie film, coming soon to theaters.
In this paperback original, a stable of fresh stories by award-winning writer Will Weaver (Full Service and Barns of Minnesota) are complemented by a hand-picked selection of favorites from his original collection, A Gravestone Made of Wheat, to offer a fresh, vivid portrait of the changing midwestern landscape.
New highlights include "Blaze of Glory," an enchanting tale of an RV road trip and a senior couple's "last time"; "The Trapper," the story of a hard split between an old trapper and a younger female environmentalist; "The Last Farmer," the capstone story of this elegant collection that examines the discovery by a high-tech farmer of the history of the old houses on his land; and "The Born Gambler" the story of a farmer who strikes riches playing poker long before the advent of the modern online poker. Fourteen stories in all portray the bountiful and whimsical and cruel human spirit and the swirling transformation of America's heartland.
The born gambler is a particularly interesting tale for the reader more acquainted to modern stories of players starting with a Titan Poker bonus code and ending with millions at the bank. Noone in his right mind will bet his entire savings in a game of poker, but this is how some fortunes began in the Far West at the time narrated in this compilation. Some men in this era were of a different caliber and this makes for fascinating tales that everyone will enjoy.

Answering 911: You could not believe what 911 operators have seen on a daily basis, like lying wifes make false accusations of beatings about their husbands so they can oppress them.
Widlflowers of the boundary waters: This is all about the Midwest and how beautiful the countryside is in the Autumn.
